Carpooling
Did anyone ever play that really old computer game Oregon Trail? They had it in my fifth grade classroom. I loved it, but by today's standards it was pretty pitiful. The idea was you needed to take a group of people across the country in a wagon. Random things would happen and messages would pop up all of a sudden saying "So-and-so in your party has died of dysentery" and "The wagon has caught fire." Good times. Anyway, you can go by wagon if you choose, but I thought I'd get a post going for people to coordinate carpooling to the qualifier, since I know not everyone has each others numbers/emails.

Oregon Trail = Best game ever.
I was one of those nerds hanging out in the computer lab after school on an ancient Apple computer because I was addicted to that game.
A few years later I was that same nerd playing some game where you are a fish trying to eat smaller fish, avoid getting eaten by bigger fish, snagged by an osprey, or caught by a fisherman. Can't remember the name, but that one was pretty sweet, too.
Anyhoo, Mustafa, Kim and I are meeting at the gym at 6:30am to carpool. Not sure if anyone wants to join us that early as a passenger or to caravan, but feel free! =)
.matt.
Ah yes, manifest destiny at its finest. My favorite part of the game was hunting for food. Although, I was always too slow to rotate the gun to shoot the faster moving animals like the squirrel.
Also, I don't know why I always chose to ford the river and kill all my oxen, the choice of going around and taking more days never sounded like the right thing to do, ever.
I only made it Oregon once in my elementary career, but I still remember that day more than any of my graduations...ahh, good times!
I have to be there at 6, so I'll be leaving at the buttcrack of dawn. If anyone wants to leave suuuper early, let me know...
Unrelated the carpooling issue but somewhat related to the ancient Apple computer-I never played Oregon Trail, but does anyone remember "Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?" Maybe that was just for us poor kids in the ghetto...
I LOVE that you guys remember that game!!!!!! Thieves always screwed me over by taking most of my buffalo meat. And Jonathan, take heart-- I remember having difficulty shooting the buffalo, let alone the squirrels. Yes, Julie, I do remember Where in the World?- and believe me, Oregon Trail was MUCH more ghetto. Carmen Sandiego had music, as I recall. Oregon Trail was lucky to have color, depending on the version you had and the computer you were using.

I grew up in the ghetto so I definetely remember carmen San diego. The only game we had on our 1 ancient computer at our school. Good call julie.
Ok, I'm either way more ghetto or just too old, but my elementary school didn't even have computers.
I love reading these posts :)
Oh, and my game of choice was that tanker game on atari. Where you used a joystick? Don't remember too much about it... just the rockin' low quality of the graphics. Ha!
When I was a kid, we were riveted by the mother of all video games: Pong. "Blip. Blip. Blip-blip. Blip. Buzzzzzzzz! You guys were super hi-tech by comparison.
So are we hunting buffalos?
Pong! Finally, something I can get on borad with. Pong was the sh*t back in the day. Thanks for the memory Mustafa.
. . . anyway. What's up with the carpooling, caravan? Not a lot of info on that topic.
Oh, ho, ho, Oregon Trail huh?
I'll wear my special T-shirt tomorrow to show you what a super nerd I am.
I see that KIM, the fantastic kicker of a**, is up first with 0930. Based on how long it will take to get there, ect ect, shall we say leave Cherry at 0730-0800-0830? Breakfast anyone? I actually have not googlemapped it, so not sure of the time required.
